Cast and crew members felt they had done justice for the Amish community in their portrayal, despite the complaints that arose during filming. Many had complaints about the disruptions. It was reported that a 5,000 Old Order of Amish lived in Lancaster County at the time. Zimmerman & Sons Grocery Store, a frequently filmed location representing a general store for the project, received complaints during filming as the store was known to specialize in serving their Amish patrons.

This development al lows Weir to get Ford into the Amish countryside where he seeks refuge. He seems equally unpopular with his colleagues and the further he delves into the case, the clearer it becomes that he's in personal danger. It's a rare trip for them outside their puritanical Amish roots and only confirms their fear of a seemingly-violent outside world.įord's aggressive and coarse manner does not go down well with the sensitive McGillis who is trying to protect her son.
